The Questions You’ll Always Get While Traveling
On my last few trips, I decided to track which questions I was asked almost daily—just to see the trend. Nerdy, yes. But hey, it’s interesting to see what pops up when you’re traveling and engaging with people from all over. So, here's a little peek into the questions that seem to be on everyone's mind.
Still, Sparkling or Tap Water?
STILL, please. I am not a fancy sparkling water girl.
Tap is rarely offered, so I usually end up with still unless they specifically mention it—and then I'll just say, "Tap is fine."
Would You Like to Pay in Dollars or Local Currency?
Local currency, please!
Trust me, you’re usually better off getting the best exchange rate directly from your bank rather than paying in dollars and letting them convert it on their end.
Where Are You From?
America.
Tennessee.
Nashville—Home of Country Music!
Usually, when you’re traveling, people know the big cities, but not always the smaller ones. So, I tend to start with the country, then the state. Unless you’re from New York City, Miami, or LA, then everyone seems to know where you’re from!
How Do You Feel About Politics?
Ah, this one. It’s a sensitive topic, and depending on who’s asking, I often tell them that politics in America is a private matter and not something I tend to discuss with strangers.
But, I’m open to answering questions about it and giving them a bit of insight into how things really are in the USA. What you see on TV isn’t always the full picture. Traveling tends to open your eyes to that.
Where’s Your Next Trip To?
Depends on when you ask me! 😊
I try to stay present and enjoy where I am rather than focusing on the next destination. But hey, there’s always something in the works.
What Do You Do For a Living?
Stay Home With the Kids?
Oh... I’d love to tell you about that.
And when I do, I usually get into the details about balancing work and family life. It’s always an interesting topic when you meet new people.
So, what about you? What questions do you find yourself getting asked the most when you travel? Would love to hear your go-to responses!
